Protective Cover

Plants are an excellent source of protection for soil. They not only anchor soil down with their roots, but also intercept rainfall, provide cover from high wind and water velocities with their residues, increase water infiltration, and increase soil aggregation. The most effective erosion controlling plants are perennial grasses and legumes.
